Portland, TX

In 2019, ASH+LIME began work on the Old Town Redevelopment Plan in Portland, Texas. The plan is focused on Portland’s Old Town district, a currently underutilized area with sporadic development. ASH+LIME is the Prime among three firms (including CallisonRTKL and Verdunity) for a broad plan which addresses land uses, development strategies, public space design elements, private property building and site design elements, wayfinding signage, streetscaping, gateway/placemaking, branding, private and public parking strategies, and related infrastructure in the redevelopment of Old Town. The team has done substantial background research and made various branding and policy recommendations.

Key to the team’s efforts is a focus on forming, guiding, and creating the Old Town Stakeholder Committee. This is a group of City leaders, property owners, business owners, and nearby residents who are helping to organize an implementation strategy for the district. ASH+LIME has worked with them to establish goals, objectives, metrics, and an overall vision. The group is currently focused on special event planning, logo design, public art, and fundraising.

This project illustrates ASH+LIME’s ability to work creatively within areas that have not seen substantial development, as well as building consensus among a wide variety of city staff, elected officials, property owners, and citizens.
